Dedicated to making the Waste Management Phoenix Open (WMPO) the greenest stop on the PGA TOUR in 2014, Waste Management launched its “Greenest Show” social media campaign in December. The campaign encourages fans, sponsors and the community to share their daily green practices and participate by using the hashtag #greenestshow via social media before and during the tournament week, January 27 – February 2, 2014.“The Greenest Show campaign provides a new creative outlet for fans to share their support for sustainability and sports, and allows Waste Management to engage with them in a more meaningful way,” said David Aardsma, WM chief sales and marketing officer. At the 2014 WMPO, Waste Management’s goal is to divert 100% of tournament waste away from landfills and into recycling and composting facilities. In its third year, the Zero Waste Challenge will focus on educating vendors and attendees about the right materials to use and reuse. Interactive Zero Waste Stations will be equipped with volunteers available to assist patrons in properly disposing of their waste. The 2013 WMPO earned the UL Environment’s landfill waste diversion claim validation, reached its goal of diverting 100% of tournament waste away from landfills and also earned Gold Certification from the Council for Responsible Sport.Read the full release here.
