Tampa, FL.October 13, 2020 – The Tampa Bay Super Bowl LV Host Committee announced today the launch of the Host Committee Sustainability Program, presented by Tampa Electric, their official sustainability partner for Super Bowl LV in Tampa on February 7, 2021.As part of the partnership agreement, Tampa Electric will work with the Super Bowl LV Host Committee to incorporate sustainability principles and programs alongside Super Bowl-related and Host Committee-related events in the Tampa Bay area. The program will focus on mitigating the environmental impact and making a positive contribution to the host community by offsetting energy at events through the purchase of solar blocks, supporting NFL Green’s community greening initiatives, developing unique fan engagement activities and aiding in food and material recovery efforts.“Tampa Electric is committed to protecting and preserving our environment, which we demonstrate as the state’s top producer of solar energy per customer,” said Rene Gallant, Vice President of Strategy and Business Development for Tampa Electric. “We look forward to the opportunity to educate the community about clean energy and creating a greener future, as well as supporting community greening projects which will help preserve our natural wildlife and resources.”Renewable Energy Offsets:The Host Committee plans to work directly with Tampa Electric to purchase solar blocks through the Sun to Go program to offset electricity usage at their sanctioned events. This initiative, which is also available to residential and business customers, will allow the equivalent of the electricity used at these events to be generated from local solar installments to the grid.Fan Engagement:In addition, the Host Committee will partner with local non-profit organizations to develop multiple fan and volunteer engagement initiatives leading up to and during Super Bowl LV week, including but not limited to community clean-ups, food packing events, a sustainability incentive program and activating a Riverwalk Green Team.Community Greening Program:In partnership with NFL Green, the Tampa Bay Super Bowl LV Host Committee and Tampa Electric will support the Community Greening Program which will develop projects focused on leaving a permanent green legacy in the Tampa Bay community. For Super Bowl LV, numerous community greening projects are planned ranging from mangrove planting and sand dune restoration to neighborhood beautification projects and community gardens.
