The Philadelphia Eagles are joining the global green sports community to celebrate the 7th annual Green Sports Day by lighting Lincoln Financial Field green. Designated as a national holiday by the Green Sports Alliance in 2016, Green Sports Day celebrates the sports industry’s accomplishments and commitments in the field of sustainability. The Eagles join more than 100 Green Sports Alliance members in lighting green to promote sustainable action across the globe.

The power used to light Lincoln Financial Field green is 100% renewable energy, partly sourced by the team’s solar energy system. The solar array has produced more than 40 megawatts of clean energy over the last 10 years, which is equivalent to powering four million green 10-watt LED light bulbs.
“As part of our sustainability journey, we always search for innovative solutions to the environmental challenges facing our planet,” said Norman Vossschulte, Director of Fan Experience and Sustainability, Philadelphia Eagles. “Sport has a unique way of unifying people to create positive change, and we are proud to join the Green Sports Alliance in shining a light on sustainability.”
The Eagles’ award-winning GO GREEN program sets out to reduce the team’s carbon footprint through concentrated efforts in green energy production, recycling, composting, seagrass and mangrove restoration, water conservation, and more. By staying true to the program’s motto “Innovate. Sustain.”, the Eagles have become a leading environmental steward that leverages its platform as a professional sports team to create a more sustainable world.
“Given the incredible honor and responsibility bestowed upon the sports industry by President Barack Obama on October 6th in 2016, we have the opportunity to leverage the power of sports to minimize the impact from emissions in stadiums, arenas, and communities where we live, work, and play,” said Roger McClendon, Executive Director of the Green Sports Alliance. “On this Green Sports Day in 2022, we want to inspire a just transition to a circular economy with renewable energy, water conservation, and waste diversion at the top of mind to ensure a healthy environment for our communities. Join us in Playing for the Next Generation as we share climate awareness with sports fans and encourage sustainable action within the sports industry.”
“Few things bring people together like sports,” said Nick Aster, Marketing Director of South Pole (North America). “That makes sports an ideal vehicle to effect societal change. We’re extremely excited to be helping the Green Sports Alliance turn the sporting world green.”
