Outdoor LED Installation to be used for ESPN’s Broadcasts of the U.S. Open

It was announced on Tuesday that the outdoor lighting installations for ESPN’s broadcasts of the 2013 U.S. Open will use exclusively LED lights. In their fifth year working with the network on its tennis coverage from the U.S. Tennis Center in Flushing, Queens, Ferri Lighting Design & Associates, a leading television lighting-design firm,  has created a new green production standard with an installation that can effectively complement and counteract the brightness of the sun with far less energy use than traditional bulbs.“We have learned, over the past few years, how to use LED lighting to augment our design so that we can maximize the firepower of lighting to work with the power of natural sunlight,” said FLDA lighting designer Mick Smith about the installation. “This year, I feel that – with ESPN – we have laid the foundation for a new outdoor lighting paradigm.”ESPN’s LED lighting fits with the greater sustainability ethos in practice at the U.S. Open.
