Miami Heat Partners with NRG Energy

The Miami Heat redoubled their sustainability efforts with the announcement of a business and clean energy partnership with NRG Energy. The partnership provides the Heat with a key long-term advisor as the team continues to seek ways to improve green operations at AmericanAirlines Arena. The venue, in in its 15th year of operations, recently became the first sports and entertainment facility to receive LEED Gold re-certification from the US Green Building Council.As part of the partnership, NRG Energy is transforming the East Plaza at AmericanAirlines Arena into a solar pavilion to showcase the company’s clean energy technology to millions of fans and Miami visitors. The renovation, estimated to be complete by November 2015, will feature 16- to 24-inch circular windows fitted with translucent solar panels utilizing Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) solar technology.“We are in the midst of a social movement that demands attention to clean energy,” NRG CEO David Crane said about the partnership, “and with the Miami HEAT, one of the most well-known international sports brands, as our partner, we hope to continue to serve as catalysts to this movement.”Read the full article here.
