Honda Center to Generate On-Site Energy

The Honda Center in Anaheim, home to the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks, is the newest sports venue to look into generating its own reliable electricity. In a recently-announced partnership with Bloom Energy Services, the Honda Center is in the preliminary stages of an installation that will allow the arena to mitigate some of the economic and environmental impacts of hosting events.The 750 kW installation, which is slated to be completed ahead of the new NHL season in October, is expected to generate 80% of the venue’s base load power. During Ducks games and concerts, the generator will produce one-quarter of the arena’s energy needs, allowing the Honda Center to reduce 2 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions annually.“We are proud to partner with Bloom Energy on this project,” said Anaheim Arena Management board chairman Michael Schulman about the partnership. “Like us, they are committed to finding creative solutions to lesson our environmental impacts while maintaining the highest standard of service.”
