Dr. Susan Kleiner, PhD, RD, FACN, CNS, FISSNCo-Founder and Co-CEO of VynnaUntil a week ago, I had never heard of the Green Sports Alliance. Then yesterday I attended The Green Sports Alliance: Champions of Food Seattle Symposium. Now I am charged up about The Green Sports Alliance (GSA) and their mission:

Leveraging the cultural & market influence of sports to promote healthy, sustainable communities where we live & play.

The top notch team at GSA and their partners, including Vulcan Philanthropy, are inspiring sports leagues, teams, venues, their partners and millions of fans to embrace renewable energy, healthy food, recycling, water efficiency, species preservation, safer chemicals and other environmentally preferable practices. Alliance members represent more than 300 sports teams and venues from 20 different sports leagues and 14 countries. And from what I heard yesterday, they are making a real dent in sustainability and better food offerings for fans at ballparks. Here are a few of the practices going on inside the big houses of the pro sports teams in the Pacific Northwest:At Century Link Field, home of the Seattle Seahawks (NFL) and Seattle Sounders (MLS), 96% of the waste products generated at the stadium are recycled or composted. Only 3% of the waste goes to landfill! Amazing!Read the full article here.
