Bridgestone Arena Partners with TerraCycle’s Cigarette Waste Brigade®
In partnership with the Nashville Clean Water Project, the Bridgestone Arena, home to the Nashville Predators, has signed on as partners of TerraCycle’s Cigarette Waste Brigade®, and will become one of the first venues in North America to collect and recycle used cigarette butts. TerraCycle currently works with large casinos, cities, festivals, environmental groups – and now major league sports teams and venues – to transform the cigarette waste they are already collecting into shipping pallets. Cigarettes are one of the most littered item across the globe, with millions of butts ending up on sidewalks and in parking lots alone. Even when disposed of “properly,” they continue to contaminate the water and air.
The waste collected through the Cigarette Waste Brigade is recycled into a variety of industrial products, and any remaining tobacco is composted. Across industries, staff have found little to no difference in their duties when switching from throwing butts into the trash to collecting them for recycling.“We’re proud of our building and our community, and we are taking this opportunity to set an example in Music City and show how simple it can be to help reduce litter and maintain clean water,” Chris Parker, Nashville Predators Executive Vice President, said. “Bridgestone Arena’s participation in this project continues to support our mission to be at the forefront of the industry and be the ‘No. 1 sports and entertainment venue in the United States.’ ”
