ANDRETTI FORMULA E JOINSTHE GREEN SPORTS ALLIANCE

Legendary motorsports team signs on as first Alliance racing team member and featured speaker at 2014 Green Sports Alliance Summit

May 14, 2014 (Portland, Ore.) — The Green Sports Alliance, an unprecedented collaboration among teams, venues and leagues dedicated to the greening of the sports industry, has added an important name to the membership roster. The nonprofit organization announced today that Andretti Autosport’s Andretti Formula E team has become the first motorsports organization to join as an official member of the Alliance. Andretti Formula E has recently made integrating sustainability into the motorsports industry a priority. In 2013 they became the first American team to sign up for the FIA Formula E Championship, which exclusively features open-wheel race cars powered by electricity. Joining the Alliance illustrates the team’s further dedication to sustainable motorsports and communicating environmental responsibility and innovation to racing fans across the world.

“The Andretti name is synonymous with racing. Andretti Formula E made history with their investment in electric vehicle racing, and is now committing to improve their environmental performance by signing on as an official member of the Green Sports Alliance,” said Martin Tull, Executive Director of the Green Sports Alliance. “The Alliance is currently working with a number of race tracks, and we look forward to expanding these efforts to work directly with the Andretti Formula E racing team and Andretti Sports Marketing event production team. Working directly with racing teams, motorsports tracks and the race organizers we’re able to create innovative and lasting solutions. We hope that this commitment from leaders in motorsports signals the start of deeper involvement from drivers and racing teams from all parts of the racing community.”

“We’re honored to be the first motorsports team to enter the Green Sports Alliance and hope we can help set a new benchmark within the industry,” said Andretti Formula E team-owner Michael Andretti. “The FIA Formula E series represents new innovations within racing that we hope will lead to better sustainability across not just motorsports, but the automotive industry as a whole.”

Along with becoming a member of the Alliance, Andretti Formula E’s sister company Andretti Sports Marketing will be a featured speaker at the 2014 Green Sports Alliance Summit, July 21st-23rd in Santa Clara, CA.  Doug Bresnahan, Vice President, Marketing Partnerships at Andretti Sports Marketing, will participate on a panel of leaders from across the sports industry discussing how sustainability is presenting new opportunities in sports marketing.
