AEG Facilities Venues Turn Off the Lights for Earth Hour

On March 29, AEG Facilities venues around the world participated in the World Wildlife Fund’s Earth Hour, cutting all non-essential lights from 8:30pm to 9:30pm local time as a symbolic and sustainable way to show support for the environment. 56 venues affiliated with AEG Facilities, in 35 cities on four continents, participated in the event.Venues also took advantage of the worldwide event, which involved more than 7000 cities around the globe, to host activities highlighting various aspects of sustainability and the environment. This year’s Earth Hour events, part of AEG’s broader long-term sustainability initiatives, occurred in advance of the company’s release of the third AEG 1EARTH Environmental Sustainability Report due out later this year. Among the additional events included:

• The StubHub Center in Carson, California, which shut down the lights at its Velo Sports Center and used glow-in-the-dark stickers to host an Earth Day bike ride.
• The STAPLES Center in Los Angeles cut all of its lights and then illuminated its exterior green during the Earth Hour.
• In Malaysia, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre hosted an environmentally-themed movie screening for visitors to the facility.

“Earth Hour is one of many events AEG-affiliated venues participate in throughout the year to engage our guests and employees in environmental issues,” John Marler, AEG’s senior director of energy and environment systems, said about the coordinated global event.  “We manage dozens of iconic venues worldwide, from the O2 in London to STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, and Earth Hour is a perfect opportunity for us to leverage their visibility for good.
